Technical Readiness Level:
Anti-icing function is based on ITO PVD sputtering technology. This technology is included in all de-icing windshields, providing heating and ensuring anti-ice condition and therefore safety. For aiplanes, energy required is around 70 W.dm² while bilayer technology for helicopters use generally 45 w. dm². However, these values are leagcy of existing design and AMC.
Optiwind studies shows there is a significant room for energy consumption , including zoning on the windshields (add power in the more exposed areas) and more efficeient regulation, for example less power during cruise while icing conditions are significantly less agressive.
Key features:
- Sustainability value is obvious and first calculations are showing a potential gain of 10 to 30% depending on the flight confitions on a falcon.
- For helicopters, it must be noted energy cobsumption for windshields correspond to nearly 50% of the total energy available in the aircraft, interest from customers like Airbus Helicopters could be huge.
