Environmental Barrier Coating Solutions

Technical Readiness Level:

trl 8

The increasing demand for fuel-efficient-aircraft drive the development of usecases for Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) materials in aircraft engine due to the ability to operate at extreme temperatures up to 1 300 degrees C while significantly saving weight compared to what nickel allows.

Environmental barrier coatings (EBCs) constitute a protective caoting to enable the CMCs to operate under the harshest conditions increasing efficiency and reducing pollutant and CO2 emissions.
