Technical Readiness Level:
Saint-Gobain Quartz, is partnering with the German Institute of Textile Technology and Process Engineering (Deutschen Institute für Textil und Faserforschung Denkendorf ) to produce a portfolio of ceramic fibers made in Europe for high temperature applications >1100°C.
The co-development initiated between the DITF Instituteand Saint-Gobain aims at creating an industrial demonstrator to produce continuous ceramic fibers in 2023 for a Launch of production 2024-2025 .
Saint-Gobain Advanced Composites is working on the integration of quartz and ceramic fibre within ceramic matrix to propose a range of product (textil, preg and cmc piece) for th emanufacturing of Oxide-oxide ceramic matrix composites product with great potential in oxidation sensitive component applications.
key features:
The combination of ceramic oxide fibers and a ceramic matrix yield Oxide-Oxide Ceramic Matrix Composites with very high thermo-mechanical resistance and other properties such as thermal and electrical insulation, corrosion resistance while being extremely light.
Such high temperature resistant are attractive for high temperature structural applications to replace metallic part saving weight and managing future engines operating tempertaure getting higher and higher to improve their efficiency.
